Celebrate Ireland’s national day with Ireland’s national domain

Not long now until 17th March.

I’m sure I don’t need to explain the significance of that date to anyone in Ireland. Like me, you’ve probably been counting down the days in your calendar each morning!

In my previous blog post – Why choosing a .ie domain is essential for Irish businesses – I mentioned a few things that are quintessentially Irish. Nothing defines Ireland more than St Patrick’s Day – the official celebration of the country’s patron saint.

Here’s a fun fact: did you know that, although normally associated with Ireland, St Patrick’s Day is celebrated worldwide in more than 200 countries? There is no other national festival of any country that is so widely recognised. It’s now a global phenomenon, and it started right here in Ireland!

Of course, there’s something else that highlights Ireland on the world stage and, if you read my previous blog post, you’ll know exactly what I mean. I’m talking of course about a .ie domain.

As Ireland’s own space on the Internet, a .ie domain is exclusively available to those who have a connection to Ireland. Any website using one of them is immediately recognisable as being Irish and that fact isn’t lost on members of the public. If you listened to the Rob Kearney interviews that I mentioned in my last post, then you’ll already know that 54% of sports fans use a .ie domain when investigating what there is to do near the venue.

There are all the other benefits as well of course:

  1. the heightened visibility in Irish search engine results
  2. protecting your brand name by preventing others from abusing it
  3. re-assuring your online visitors that you are indeed connected to Ireland

Just like St Patrick’s Day, the importance of .ie domains has become recognised globally and there is no more powerful symbol of Ireland in the online world.

With some time still remaining until the big day itself, why not check to be sure that your business has its own .ie domain? As it’s such an exclusive type of domain you’re more likely to get the exact name you want. That way, as you enjoy the merriment on Monday and toast all that is Ireland with friends and family, your website itself can also play its part at celebrating your Irishness in the virtual space.

You never know – it may even bring you more customers and boost your profile, so you’ll then have even more to celebrate.

However you spend Monday, we hope you have a fantastic St Patrick’s Day!
